How to get from Geneva Airport to Chamonix & Les Houches by Bus
How To Get from Geneva Airport to Chamonix
We arrived from Geneva- the closest airport to our location– at night, and so we couldn’t really see our surroundings. From the airport we took a Bus, then a taxi AND then we walked. Once we arrived in Geneva we simply asked an information agent for a bus to Chamonix and there was one leaving in 20 minutes. They run between the Geneva airport and Chamonix every half an hour to 45 minutes during the busy winter season. It’s cheaper if you pre book your ticket online, but we didn’t want to risk loosing our ticket if our flight got delayed. It had been a long day. 😰
Right across the street from the Chamonix Sud Station, there was a hotel where we asked for a cab to be called. The cab fare was 40 Euros from Chamonix to Les Houches– our new home- which was not bad considering it was nighttime and we were 5.
Chamonix to Les Houches
The city offers a free bus which runs from Les Houches to Chamonix station every half an hour. It’s route # 1. You can see their schedule here. But it stops at around 8pm or so.
Les Houches, is about 15 min from Chamonix Center. When we woke up and opened the curtains, we saw just how close to the mountains we were. I couldn’t believe it! It’s a much less touristy little village than Cham, and our flat was walking distance to the Les Houches Lift which we thought we’d be walking to at least once a week.
Living in a small alpine town was amazing. The only thing that could’ve made it better would’ve been snow.
Have you ever stayed for a month in a remote town not known to you? What was your experience like?
