Summer Camps Across Europe for Kids: The Honest Guide for Traveling and Expat Families (2026)

There is a version of a European summer where your kid watches the continent go by from the backseat. And then there is the version where she spends a week learning to sail on Mallorca, cooks croissants at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, digs up actual Roman artifacts in Ireland, or learns flamenco in Granada — the city where flamenco actually comes from.

The difference between those two versions is usually not money. It is knowing that summer camps in Europe for kids like these actually exist, and knowing which ones are worth your family’s time.

1. Sailing + Watersports Camps in Europe for Kids

The best sailing and watersports camps in Europe are on actual coastlines, with instructors who live and breathe the water. They mix disciplines so kids get more than one afternoon on a boat.

UK-operated and entirely English-language, which matters enormously when you are handing your child to instructors on a Greek island. Port Calanova Sailing Camp — Mallorca, Spain

Ages 10–15 | ~€3,600 / 3 weeks | Residential at the marina

Run by Spain’s National Sailing School (Escuela Nacional de Vela de Calanova) right on the Bay of Palma. Kids learn to read the wind and the water, and the program layers in English, football, and additional water sports around the core sailing curriculum. Fully residential — kids sleep 50 meters from their boats. For families relocating to Spain, this is the kind of program that builds the friendships your child will still have at 25.

2. Cooking Camps — Le Cordon Bleu and Beyond

Residential cooking camps for kids under 14 are less common in Europe than in North America. The strong options for younger kids are session-based. Teens 15+ have more choices.

3. Football Academies — Real Clubs, Real Facilities

Nearly every major European club now runs a summer academy. The ones worth making a trip for are official programs at actual training facilities — not franchises using a club’s name.

FC Barcelona Academy Camp — Barcelona, Spain

Ages 10–16 | Official Barça Academy program | English coaching at FC Barcelona facilities

One of the most coveted youth football experiences in Europe. Training at the actual Barça facilities, coached according to the club’s own youth methodology. For families who have relocated to Spain or are planning to — this is the camp your football-obsessed kid will talk about forever.

Real Madrid Foundation Campus Experience — Madrid, Spain

Ages 7–17 | Boys and girls | At Ciudad Deportiva Valdebebas

Official Real Madrid Foundation program at Valdebebas — the actual first-team training complex. Tactical workshops, methodology sessions, the Real Madrid football philosophy. For any child serious about the game, training at the same facility as the first team is an experience with no equivalent.

Ajax Camps & Clinics — Amsterdam, Netherlands

Ages 6–16 | All skill levels | De Toekomst (The Future) campus

Ajax trained Cruyff, van Basten, and Bergkamp. “De Toekomst” is their youth campus — kids train according to the actual Ajax academy methodology, one of the most respected football philosophies in the world. This is my top pick in the equestrian category, and it is not close. Twelve children maximum per session — every child is known by name. Set in the Chianti wine country, one of Italy’s most beautiful landscapes. Sunday arrival to Saturday departure, with the week ending in a riding show where families watch their kids perform what they have learned. 5. Circus Arts — The Camp Most People Have Never Heard Of

These are verified camps with real pricing. But camp rates update each year and some smaller operators quote you after inquiry rather than publishing rates openly. Always confirm current pricing and availability directly before you commit.

Ask these before you book anything:

• What is the instructor-to-child ratio?
• Is supervision 24/7 for residential camps?
• What language does day-to-day instruction happen in?
• Is lunch included or extra?
• What is the refund policy if travel plans change?
• Are there any dietary accommodations (allergies, vegetarian, etc.)?

Those details matter more than the brand name on the website.
