How to find your instagram niche….the age old struggle. The most important step in the process of establishing yourself online, is to find your Niche. This might seem like an exaggeration to many, but without a niche you can go in circle for years. Trust me, I did it. You think you like horses today, then tomorrow you’re into skincare and next thing you know you’re posting about your grandmother’s flowers ( no offense granny).

Social media is all about being social, and how can you connect with like minded individuals (aka clients) if you don’t know WHO you’re meant to be connecting with.

If you are a brand or store, it is imperative to attract your customers. If you are a content creator, it is super important to attract your ideal audience. These people are, after all, the ones who will be purchasing your products, and services. If you are a business you need these people to stay afloat. If you’re a content creator, you need this people to stay relevant and offer brands you work with a good ROI (return on investment).

So no matter who you are, if you’re using Instagram for business, you need to know your niche.

How to find your Instagram niche

Step 1 – What are you passionate about?

This may seem cliche, but it is the single most important question for finding your niche. You don’t want to create content or start a business about something you have no interest on. A lot of people think they have to “pick a niche” that is profitable or trendy, but the truth is that trends change. Just as well, people make money a million different ways, so just because your passion is not screaming wealth, it does not mean it isn’t profitable.

Another common mistake is to try to think of what will make money, or be popular before you ask yourself what really matters to you. This is a mistake because anything has the potential to make money or be profitable, as long as you’re dedicated to it.

If you’re still struggling with your passion, ask yourself these questions:

What drives you?

Is there something that makes you get up in the morning?

What excites you just to think about it?

Is there an idea, theme, or concept can you talk about or write about forever?

Step 2 – What are you good at?

This is also not the easiest question to answer, as I find it is sometimes difficult being objective. My recommendation is that you think about what people come to you for. Do friends call you often with questions about a certain topic? Do your relatives refer to you as the “_____ gal/guy?”

If you still can’t come up with anything, ask some close friends what they think you’re really good at.

This is important because the better you are at something, the more you’ll be able to talk about it and create content around it. This translates to consistency, and consistency is key for instagram growth.

For example, if you love to travel, but you are really good at thrift shopping maybe your niche is lacking for travel on a budget. You can fit into the amazing travel niche ( which is not so niche anymore ) and find your own demographic in the budget packing or budget fashion world. This makes you unique, versatile, and decreases your competition.

Step 3 – Is it profitable? Is it sustainable? Can I be consistent with it?

So you found a passion, and something you’re good at, but now you’re stuck with something super random and you don’t know if anyone cares for it. What now?

It’s time for research.

Google is your best friend. I will say this time and time again.

If you type in any word on the google search bar, it will give you a number underneath which indicates how many searches there are for it. If your “niche” is travel couple, and google tells you there are billions of entries for it, you’re better off niching that DOWN to something a little smaller.

You want your niche to be specific, unique, but profitable.

Just as well, if your niche has 3 searches, nobody is looking for it. Therefore, you might have a hard time finding a good audience or customer for it.

Chances are, if you ask yourself the three questions above, you will be able to find yourself an awesome niche you can work with. After you have a niche, the most important step is CONSISTENCY. Which is why you have to be passionate about it, and good at it. Because if you’re not, it simply won’t be sustainable.

Finding your niche does not have to be hard, but even if it takes you a long time, it’s worth the effort. Once you have your niche figured out, everything else will make sense, and it will be much easier for you to stay on track with your business content planning.
